I'm curious as I hear these expressions so often. I live in Toronto, which is not the most expensive city when compared to New York, London, Paris, Moscow, etc. but it is pretty expensive by Canadian standards.

So with my location in mind, how much (salary-wise, per year) is a "good living" or "making good money"? I'm wondering what you think.

  1. I would guess $100,000/yr

  2. I often wonder about this too.

It depends on many factors I think.

    1. How old the person is.

    2. What economic background they came from.

    3. Who their friends are.

    4. What they consider important.

You can guess by what they own, who they hang out with, what they talk about, and how much they flinch when they hear how much something costs.

"Good money" Usually means to me that they are able to support themselves and their kids. Are able to buy necessities and the toys they want. They can make house payments & car payments. They are not in debt.

To accomplish all of this, someone should be making at least $75,000 and the spouse is also doing at least as well.
