When someone says your pretty or beautiful or whatever, how are you supposed to respond?

usually i just say thank you and change the subject because there's this long, awkward pause. but are you not supposed to say anything and just smile or are you supposed to say "thanks, so are you". i don't think i should say "no, im not" because then it might seem like im fishing for complements. please help! what are you supposed to say, and how can i make the conversation feel less awkward?

--keep doing what you have been doing.  Or, if you can find something nice about them to say, you can say it after you thank them.

**Example 1: "Awww...thank you. That's so nice of you to say, but I wish I had your eyes because the color is really pretty." Then change the subject.  

**Example 2: "Thanks, and you are so nice. I need to take lessons from you." Then change the subject.

Just say... "thank you. I'm honoured" and smile.. that's it.. you don't have to deliberately change the topic or anything.. it sounds like you're ashamed to receive compliments.. you don't have to be... accept the compliments gracefully...

I tend to just laugh, if they keep going on and on about it I start singing.

Otherwise, I just say thanks and change the subject.

i usually say "awwwww thank you" and then they complement me on my smile cuz i do have a beautiful smile. thennnnnnnnn it gets on my never and i tell them to STOP.  cuz makes me smile harder and it feel uncomfortable.

when sumone thats my age or around it i go yea right n then we start to argue lol
