When someone trash-talks your favorite team, what is the one thing someone can say that really bothers you?

We all know that if someone is being immature and saying your team sucks without anything to back it up, it is better to just ignore that. But what is that one thing someone can say about your team that really gets under your skin where you can't help but answer back and defend them? It can be something about a certain player, maybe something that is universally believed but not actually true, it can be anything.

Side note: I got the ideo of this question from Greta's previous one. So, thanks Greta :).

  1. The thing that gets me the most about anything Royals are the people that claim Mike Schmidt was a better player than George Brett.  It's a comparison that gets made quite often.  If you really look at the numbers, I don't see how anyone can say that Schmidt was better except just for the sake of argument.

  2. I think one of my friends said that he can't stand any of the Yankees players because they are just there for the money. The "buying" championships thing bothers me too. That's not possible, people are just dumb.

  3. its either angels are gonna suck during post season like last year there's no need to even get excited or angels need a big bat

like i haven't heard that before!!

i hate it when people endlessly say that.. i get the same old reason every time.. can't you think of something else?

edit below: I love Duke too hehe

  4. The Chicago teams can truly be bitey, so what can I say in their defense?

  5. I hope this question goes for all sports, lol...

What really bothers me is when people say "Kobe Sucks!". I feel like telling them to grow up and accept the fact that he is freakishly talented and the best player right now. Yes, hes no Jordan, but he's as close as your going to get.

  6. As a life long Cubs fan, I've heard it all. None of it bothers me but i do have a list of things I use to get a rise out of other fans.

  7. Phillies suck, (insert a team name) rule!

  8. If they say anything that is flat out wrong, it bothers me, even if it doesn't involve my team.

I'm a Red Sox fan and right after Papelbon said he should close the All-Star Game, a couple news anchors here (in Boston) defended him saying he should because he had more saves. I went on a rant to my friend about how ignorant that was and (as one of many points) that having more saves meant more opportunities, etc.

I also hate the things Greta mentioned that people say about Manny and Ortiz. The fact is that Manny works harder than anyone in baseball. Just ask any reporter and they will tell you about the amount of time Manny puts in each day to getting better. Just because he has fun and can be...um...clumsy in the outfield sometimes, people want to jump all over him. You think he became one of the best hitters in the past 20 years by being lazy.

So basically anytime someone says something wrong but acts like its true because they like whatever team and backs it up with the wrong types of stats to prove their point bothers me. I am a fan of the game as a whole as well as a particular team (the Red Sox).

  9. When your team is going to choke and that they are cursed.

I'll let you guess the team!

  10. The people who usually have the most to say are usually the ones who know the least about the game in general.  Buying championships is the dead give away.  Most people don't realize that all the teams including the so called small market teams have enough financial backing to jump right into the free agent market anytime they want.

When people zero in on the Yankees it does aggravate me to some extent.  It's a combination of the troll not knowing what he or she is talking about and whether or not I feel like explaining it to them.  I tend to just move on to the next question.

This was one of the reasons I was thinking seriously about leaving Y/A.  That plus all the cheaters who have more than one account to pile up points and increase their best answer totals.  They know who they are!

  11. There's nothing  they can say about the Dodgers that bothers me. They suck and i know it.

  12. Your welcome. :)

I used to get really aggravated when I heard people say "the Red Sox suck!" since it's obviously not true. But I've learned to ignore that. If I said something everytime I heard someone say "Red Sox suck," I'd probably lose my voice. If they wanna be ignorant like that, who am I to stop them?

However when people say things about Jason Varitek being this disastrous player, I HAVE to say something. That's when I go on my little "team impact", "leadership", and "ability to call a great game" tirade. People usually don't have much to say then.

OR when people say that David Ortiz is on steroids. They always mention that when he was with the Twins his numbers weren't as good. But what they fail to mention is that he didn't get nearly as much playing time there as he does in Boston.

Oh, and another one...when people say that Manny is lazy. Last time I checked, you don't get to be a future Hall of Famer and one of MLB's best hitters by being "lazy."

  13. its not so much about the team but about what they say about the fans.

"Yankee fans always talk about their 26 titles". What is wrong with being proud of your teams accomplishments?  Isn't that the point of being a fan.  Then they say that we are always living in the past. Well, prettymuch everything is in the past.  When does time run out on bragging rights?

  14. When people say we are an LA Team. We are not an LA team. We are an Anaheim team and we represent the OC.

  15. you say your team ( example mets ) f***ing sucks!

  16. Nothing bothers me except saying they should move to Orlando or something stupid like that. If they move anywhere it needs to be to Tampa or at least closer.

  17. my grandma is a giants fan, but im an A's fan so we got a lot of chances to see eachothers team. i cant stand it when she criticizes mark ellis. he is probably the most under rated second baseman. i believe he should win a gold glove. i havent seen an error from him all year. he isnt that great with the bat, but he can hit a little bit. he has been with oakland for a long time and unfortunately he is in his contract year. we need to resign him.

EDIT: i just checked mlb.com and ellis has a fielding percentage of .996

hes a gold glover in my mind.

  18. pinstripes said the one thing that as a team gets me. the yanks payroll was average from 1996-2000 when they won those rings

the big thing that gets me is when people accuse Jeter of being a homosexual..hes straight and has dated some of the hottest women in the world, but people are just jealous of him and have to make up that dribble to feel good about themselves

  19. The Giants Are nothing but steroid userers

Barry Bonds takes steroids, the giants suck!

  20. The whole buying championships thing

and lately with my Brother the whole Alex Rodriguez incident , enough is enough

  21. The ONE thing that people tend to always say is that the yankees "bought" their world series' when you cant buy it at all! Half the players from the 4 most recent world series were traded for or home grown so that isnt true at all! They actually lose when they spend the most it seems like lately!

  22. I'm really into defending my team. This isn't even a major thing, but one thing that really bothers me is when someone says my favorite player sucks even though they dont even know who the player is. One of my favorite players who even made it to the all-star game and someone still says he sucks. I dont even get why, he made it to the all star game. I ask that person why they suck and said, "because he's on the A's." I know this isnt major, but i really bothers me. I come back a defend the best to my ability. Truly, you cant say a player sucks if you never even heard of them and is a good player (Duchscherer has a 1.87 ERA and is 10-6). Pretty good I thought. =]

    Great Question, here's a star! =]
