When someone who have money dies, how long do it take to get it?

My grandma pasted away on January 30th 2008. To now the person who deals with her financials still didnt notify me of the money I was told I was going to recieve. How long does it usually take? What should I do?

  1. her will goes in to probate,,,,,, may take up till 9ths then  you should be sent a letter from the person do estate   ' laywer...


  2. if her will is legit you should of found out what is going on by now. if there is a delay someone or something may be disputed. i would call the probate court and an attorney.

    With a Will, it depends. It could go to probate and you *might* end up with next to nothing.

    No Will? Then who knows.

  4. It can take up to a couple years.  First, the entire estate must be liquidated - meaning, selling the house, etc.  Then, all the final expenses must be paid - funeral, medical bills, etc.  THEN, the distribution to heirs can be made.

    What should you do?  Go to the local probate court, and ask to see a copy of the will.  You might be surprised - if there arent any assets left, there isn't anything to get.  But if you're not mentioned in the will, you won't get anything, either.  And if there isn't  will, the probate judge will distribute assets according to state law - which means, grandkids won't get anything.
