what force is pushing it down, and what force is pushing it up?

  1. Its weight

    F = mg

    (=9.8 times its mass)

    is pushing it downwards

    And buoyant force

    F = ρVg

    (for water, =9.8 times its volume, coz ρ=1)

    pushes it upwards.

    g = 9.8 m/s²

    m = mass of the body

    V = its volume

    ρ = density of the liquid (not of object)
