I mean is the new convert expected to do things immediately. I know the Salat should be next on the list, *but* what if you're a slow learner and it takes you a month to even learn the first one????

Should that new convert just perform the first one every day until she learns the second (because wouldn't that be better than learning none?) or just hold of on performing the Salat at all until she has learned them all?

  1. Allah loves you

    Allah knows. Do your best

  2. Try your up most best to learn Salaah no matter how long it takes you, I remember when my Friend reverted it took her some time to grasp it and actually certain aspects she is still trying to grasp, as long as your intention is there and you are working towards in learning it you will get there ;)

  3. Once you have accepted Islam in your heart, the recital with your tongue is but a formality for Allah knows what is in your heart.

When you revert to Islam, you are like a new born, sinless and pure.  But also remember that new borns' cannot run.  They first learn to roll, then to crawl, then to stand up, then walk and then run.  Similarly, you are not expected to start praying 5 times a day, memorize the entire Qur'an, fast for half the year or anything that makes it suffocating and a burden on you, for Islam is not meant for that.  It is meant to be a guide to make your life easier.

So in short, start learning the first chapter of the Quran and shortest chapters (possible the last 3 chapters in the Qur'an) so that you can begin to do the formal prayers.  The other things will come along in time Inshallah.

  4. You should right away learn how to read surah al fatiha, which is an obligational recitation in salat.

Once u learn those 7 verses, u can just say "alhamdulillah" for the rest of the salat until you findly learn the other things to say.
