  1. For my manual transmission car:

I put my foot on the brake and release the parking break, then shift into first.  When I stop I shift into neutral, set the brake, then turn the car off.

    For my automatic car:

I rarely use the parking brake.  I put it in park, then shut the car off.

  2. starting a car - foot on brake, release hand brake (parking brake) then put it in drive

stopping a car -  foot on brake, gear lever in neutral or park then parking brake.

when using a manual transmission do all the same as above but with the clutch pedal engaged during the process
