  1. The LLC's official name is the one that is stated in its articles of organization as filed with the state where it it created. For example, Acme, LLC. If Acme, LLC wishes to do business under another name (an "assumed name", "fictitious firm name", dba, etc.), then it would need file a "fictitious name statement" identifying the LLC as the user of the fictitious name. For example, "Acme, LLC doing business as Charter Bookkeeping".

There are several other tax and non-tax considerations that can have a long-lasting affect on you, your family and business associates; as well as your business itself.

I've researched this extensively and had considerable experience. I suggest you do your own research before either doing it yourself or hiring someone to do it for you. That way you know if the job is being done the best way for your situation. There is no substitute for first hand knowledge.

  2. You should check out the secretary of state website for the state you wish to register in.  They are a great source for starting a business  since all states have different rules.

  3. The LLC name is the "person's" name.  You only have to file if the LLC does not operate under its own name.
