  1. Yes, you'll be fine. Just keep an eye on your bag etc. like you would anywhere else. The city centre is not a problem, nor is the metro. Spain has a very 'outdoors' culture. People are always in the street, in cafe's, on their balconies... I don't think you'd find yourself in some dark street on your own.

    I think there is always a NO NO place in every city :)

    But you can travel safely alone. There are policemen everywhere.

  6. Yes, it's quite secure, but try to be next to the centre... there's always more police... anyway is the most beautiful part of Madrid...

    Avoid places that you would avoid in the US...dimly lit streets, etc.
