  1. it is all up to your local break. i surf at wrightsville beach and i like to ride in low tide

  2. It depends on your break. Go to http://surfline.com , look up your break, and find the best tides and winds for your area.

  3. Just like surfammo said,

it depends on your break, the swell size, swell direction etc.

  4. It depends completely on the break. And, it can even vary at the same break depending on how big the swell is at any given time. I have surfed at some spots that usually are great on a rising or high tide. except when the swell is kind of wimpy, and there is too much water over the sandbar for the outside break to happen.

  5. the best time to take on mother nature in her space is the first three hours following a peak high tide allowing the beginning of the falling tide headed in to low tide. the reason (if you don't have a home break) is because at low tide most beaches wall up also at high tide the peaks are distinct and obvious rights and lefts show up. Next the important thing is to notice the speed of the returning to sea out going wave as it picks up following the peak high and on in to the occurring low tide as the surface of the water which is headed out to sea meets the incoming wave the higher speed of the outgoing surface forces the shape of the wave to be pure and actually shoots (pitches) the lip of the wave out further away from the incoming face giving you a wider tube not so much rolling over and simply unshaped falling down the face whitewater. But then without a swell to know what actual place to be when the waves are such and such the right height to be where when? knowledge only comes with experience and with 44 years of being a water man I think the best waves follow the high tide and are during the first three - four hours of the outgoing on its way to peak low tide
