  1. That mirror is the most important - when switching to right lane.

    Good Luck...

  2. You are supposed to look in as many mirrors and directions as you need to in order to be completely sure that you're not going to hit any cars or cyclists.

So if you're going into an inside lane that's busy, then definitely yes. But if you're on a quiet motorway with nobody around then you won't get pulled over for not having looked at that mirror.

  3. It's also important to remember that ALL mirrors have blind spots where other cars can hide.  So, after you check the side mirror (on whichever side you are about to go), take a second to actually look through the rear passenger window to see if there may be a car hiding over there.

  4. You need to look everywhere that's necessary to ensure that you're not going to hit anyone!

It's not about what you're "supposed to do" but about driving safely.  How would you feel if you changed lanes on a "seemingly"quiet road and took out a motorcyclist who you didn't see because you hadn't looked around you properly?

Always a good idea to check blind spots by a quick check over your shoulder also.

  5. Absolutely.  Unfortunately too few people do it and that is how so many accidents happen on the roads today.

  6. Yes, if you are switching to the right lane.

  7. I always do so I can see how fast the cars behind me are coming up.
