When switching on my laptop

When switching on my laptop ( Compaq presario C300 ) I get a message on the screen which says - Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMyou can attemp to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
