In the UK you can be tested driving either a manual or an automatic, whichever you want. If you pass your test in an automatic your licence will restrict you to driving autos only, if you pass in a manual you can drive either.

If you pass your test in a manual, you are qualified to drive either a manual or automatic.

If you pass in an automatic, you are only qualified to drive an automatic vehicle.
