Question:

When teething, how much sleep is too much?

Alyssa has been teething for weeks... it is getting out of control. The one top tooth came through, but now her gums are so swollen from the other tooth coming in that you can no longer see the first tooth.

She has a fever and is just miserable and clingy. If I held her in the rocking chair she would sleep all day.

So my question is, is it normal for her to sleep that much? Do you think it could be more than just teething? I feel so bad when she is in pain, but I don't want to take her to the doctor for no reason either.

  1. When Em was in the worst part of her teething she was the same way. There was no such thing as too many naps or too many 1 ounces bottles. She would nap, eat an ounce, nap again, eat another ounce, and so on. I called the doctor because I was concerned that she was giving herself some kind of horrible diet, but he told me it's completely normal. It's like when we're sick. The only thing that really makes you feel better is lots of naps and small meals!

  2. I'd rather take y baby to the doctor 1000 times for no reason than one time too little.

Little ones are known for sleeping things off. If she's still eating (which I can imagine is hard at the moment) I'd let her sleep as much as she wants.

I hope you have some pain killers to give her. I'm not a big fan of giving meds to a baby, but sometimes it's really worth it when they feel so poorly.

Lots of good luck. I hope Alyssa get through this real soon.
