When texting i can't type letters but only words?

I am using a samsung J700 and I have a problem texting, when I type in a letter H the word hi comes up and when i click again further words come up.

I've gone on settings and can't fix it doesn anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it

Sounds like its in t9 mode. You need to change the input method from t9 to Abc which allows you to input single letters instead of guessing words.

Just before you start writing a message hold down the # button and T9 should go off.

its on predictive or t9 go to text settings and change it.

when in the create text, press and hold the star button on the bottom left

simply press h once e once l twice and o once.

to change to 'multitap' hold star or hash or even number one for a few second, depends on the fone.

the setting is set on t9 or t9word. change it to abc or ABC.  With all the phones i have had i go to Messages, then go to Settings, then find Entry Mode, and it should have at least one of the two entries that i stated before. Change the setting to abc, ABC, or maybe Abc. either one should be correct.
