  1. They didn't "forecast" the end of the world-it simply is the end of their calendar.

Maybe they knew what 4 years of Obama would do to the world and it was pointless to go any further.

  2. That was the end of their calander.  They never went further so people assume that they meant that this would be the end of the world.

  3. I think you just answered your own question.

  4. First of all, I subscribe to the Mayan prophecy that predicts the possible end of human life (and almost all Earth life) to occur on either December 21 or 23, 2012. I'm a believer for several years now.

Why? Because the Mayan civilization had the incredibly advanced knowledge of astronomy. This is not a warning but a precaution of what is to come in the near future, and it doesn't bode well for the rest of humanity and living species.

I sincerely hope that a small number of worthy humans will survive, but it will come with difficult trials of life after the Apocalypse, especially foraging for edible food and drinkable liquid to prevent starvation.

Here are the source links and video clips. Prepare to be amazed or dismiss it as bizarre and non-sense science fiction.

  5. I don't know and I don't care. As the Rush song goes, I will choose freewill!

  6. The reign of Barack Obama and his cronies will cause the downfall of our civilization.  ;)

  7. Don't know... we will find out though.

P.S. Don't take that end of the world c**p seriously. Last I had heard, it was supposed to end in 1984.

  8. December 22, 2012 (or Dec. 21, depending on the source) is when the Mayan long count "flips over" to 0.0.0.0.0.   Mayan religion claimed that everytime their long count returns to zero, that it is the end of that world and the beginning of the next.  It's really vague what kind of changes one should expect, as no accounts were made of the three worlds before the Fourth World we now live in.  Whether that means the world will suddenly shift or some event will cause a realignment of power or just the world's biggest New Years Bash, nobody knows for sure.

Interestingly enough, Terrence McKenna charted patterns in catastrophes and wars throughout time and and found that many of the lines will all hit with another catastrophe on or near December 22, 2012.

    Weird stuff.

  9. the mayans evidently thought that their civilization would last until 2012.  they missed it by about 500 years.  so , i wouldnt put too much faith into their predictions.

as for their calander,  heck, they probably got tired of making it. you have to stop somewhere.  500 years in the future is a good stopping point.

    ---------------

this whole thing is just another end of the world prediction.  i have lived through about 5 or 6 of them.  we are all still here.

  10. As a history enthusiast, the Mayans were a fascinating culture that far exceeded the thinking of the age.  However, in this day and age we are obsessed with our own demise.  Thus we conjure-up theories (i.e. Y2K) that predict or promote world apocalypse.  2012 is an interesting subject, however, disasters are occurring all over the world this very minute, natural and human made.  It will not take a specific date to end our civilization.   The question you should ask yourself is whether this event (like Y2K) will make you fear the future?  2012 will come and go, and the theorists will flock to the next global disaster that fits they’re fancy.  Research more of the wonderful Mayan history, and less of our manipulation of it.  You can find anything if you fill the grey areas of history with your own interpretation.   Cheers!

  11. I thought the Mayan calendar just ended, was there a prediction?

  12. That's a fabrication so that a lot of people can cash in.  It's simply the end of a whole cycle in the Mayan calendar.  It's a time of celebration for the Mayans until the next cycle starts again (the next day).

  13. Actually they did not that was just the end of one of their calenders if you do a little research they also had other one even up to the 31 century, but people love to panic.

  14. It meant they couldn't count any higher.

  15. The Mayans made no such forecast, therefore, nothing is meant by that statement.
