Do they get the package back? Or do they just pay you for what was in the box?

  1. Just be sure to always insure your package or get delivery confirmation on it, that way you will have a tracking number that shows if the package has been delivered or not. If you have tracking and it said it was delivered but you didn't receive it, then the mail carrier either delivered it to the wrong address or it was stolen off your porch. But either way, if you did not recieve it and it was insured you can still file a claim with the post office. Without insurance, your sol.

  2. My experience is you are up a creek without a paddle.  If it was something you ordered from a company, they usually consider it "lost in the mail " and will usually replace it.  If you paid for it with a credit card, talk to them and they will not pay for it.  but , the post office take responsibility...not likely.

  3. Most likely, nothing.  The confirmation just documents that the package was delivered.  They do not verify that it was delivered to the correct address or write down the address it was actually delivered. If you had insurance, they will pay you for the declared value, after you prove the value of what was in the box (usually some type of receipt). However, if their records show it was delivered and you say it wasn't, than they might not pay out the claim  If they know where the box is, they might go get it.   If there was  a signature required than maybe you have more of a chance of them going and getting it.

  4. They should go get your package back. Always make sure you have a package that needs to be signed for.
