That depends what you mean by "ancestor," of course, but generally speaking when people discuss this question they are asking when the human line broke off from our closest relatives, chimpanzees.  The human-chimp split probably occurred approximately six million years ago, though there is some debate on this point.

    The first ancestor of man to walk the Earth was the first critter to come out of the water and walk. That was before mammals, let along primates.

  3. you mean when humans' ancestors travelled out of africa? according to current daa that was about 1.5-2.0 mya. 1.8 is commonly accepted
