When the government introduces population control, how will it work?

It's going to happen sooner or later with global warming, as global over-population is one of the major contributing factors to climate change.

What would be the criteria involved in having children? Should there be genetic screening first? How would population control be enforced? Through the tax system?

one option is monetary, a person with more children than the authorized norm will have to pay fines or more tax. but that method could backfire in the long run, because it will make families with many children poorer, and poorer people can not afford good education to their children, and uneducated people tend to have more children.

another option is medical intervention, once a person reaches the maximum number of children, a medical intervention stops that person's ability to procreate.

let's hope it won't be the way they tried to do it in India, where people were actually abducted and castrated, mostly poor people.

The best option is education, educated people, preferably with good income, tend to have less children.

No one can know for sure. There can only be theories but my guess is that with technology advancements people will live in space or underwater or population will be controlled the way it is in china.

Personally, I don't ever see any sort of population control happening. Ever. Not even for climate change, as most people aren't the least bit concerned about that anyway.

Humankind is FAR too proud and arrogant to ever even consider controlling their own population, considering every single life as precious as a gods. Just look at Abortion laws, which now make it illegal.

Just for the sake of argument though, if they DID, it'd probably either be a child limit (like one child per family) Or they'd just eliminate the poor and middle class, leaving the rich elite (which is far more likely)

It all depends on which country you live in. It depends on the type of government, society, education, tax system etc. There are country's suffering from underpopulation. In such countries government encourages citizens to have more number of children. Without sufficient population economic growth is not possible.

Will someone please explain, in a reasonable fashion how paying a tax is supposed to stop global warming.  Vanity?  Those who are proposing such none sense are the true deceivers.  Events set into motion by nature, are not  easily halted, and no tax or idea of population control will change that.  I can only feel sincere apathy for those who, because they have been indoctrinated to accept what ever our educators feed us, actually are willing to give up their very souls, and sell out their future generations.

And as far as over population, well ....  human beings in North America alone only have populated 3% of the entire land mass.  Because the majority of these people, 70% live in overpopulated cities, it is easy to believe  the over population lie.  Research, ask questions, and question all authority. It is easy to group people into 3 different catagories.

A those who believe everything because they recieved the information from media, government, teachers, etc.

B those who will believe nothing that the aformentioned sources  disseminate because of thier own fear.

C those who question and use thier own powers of deduction to reach intelligent conclusions.

It is the latter of the groups that manipulative governments fear because they use thought.   We gain no understanding by simply examining so called facts. Anybody can post a link to a web site, that may or may not be politically driven, but very few  actually speak through wisdom.  It is far better to entertain thought and daring in our lives than to become computer storehouses of useless information.  

And the, way this argument is panning out, if people really want to offer solutions to over populations, then the answer lies entirely on the individual.  Your support of the notion that to overt this global catastrophe we should as a matter of supreme unselfishness, give up our civil liberty and allow ourselves to face a global tax as well as a carbon cap on our own prodigy, well, why not just make yourself a hero and terminate your carbon dioxide emissions from this planet with your own hands.

When you examine the so called solutions, with real thought ,it is obvious that the call for population control and genetic screening is nothing but the recipe of mad men.
