when the main belt on a 2001 ford ranger edge go bad does it squeal.?

  1. if you mean the  serpentine drive belt  yes, you need to change it right away. it powers alt. a/c. water pump etc.

    expect to pay a mechanic about $80. more or less.

    it takes  about 12 - 20 minutes to repair,depending on what type of car you own.


  2. a squealing belt is a sign that it's loose or slipping.  adjust the tensioner a little bit.  while you're doing that, check the belt to see if it's cracked and worn.  if so, just go ahead & replace it.

  3. Belts in general will squeal from time to time.The Ranger has only one belt.You can buy the belt at the auto store and replace it yourself just follow the diagram on under the hood..

  4. Tensioners are just that. They keep constant tension and are NOT adjustable. One simple test is to spray your belt while squealing with wd40 and if it stops or get quiet then the belt. It also could be a tensioner or idler pully causing the concern and lets not forget the alt bearing also.
