When the ticket officer breaks laws, what happens in court?

Recently I was pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign and careless driving by a bicycle cop. When I checked my local ordinances, he is not allowed to ride bicycle on the sidewalk. He was also going the opposite direction of the traffic. Does this have any impact when I go to court tomorrow to dispute my tickets?

  1. Not a thing,

when it's your word against the cops, a judge will always believe the cop.

  2. NO! i no many people that try this and it has nothing to do with the violations that you commited. If you are lucky they will believe you and that is a whole seperate case.

Ex. i kill someone and the cop litters that doesnt mean they are not going to charge me. Just follow the street laws and u will be ok.

  3. Police officers are given statuatory protection and are allowed to ignore many traffic laws and ordinances while they are conducting their job.  If you stated this in court the officer and prosecutor would probably start chuckling and the judge would give you a strange look...

  4. No, what you should do is call him a pig after he gives you a ticket and starts to walk away, because if he does anything to you after you call him a pig then you get big DOLLARS in court. I know someone who got a speeding ticket, the cop gave him a ticket, walked away he called him some name, the cop turned around, and arrested him. After he got out, he sued them and won lots and lots of money.

  5. You have a lot of great ideas. Good luck in court, and make them prove everything.

  6. As he is not on trial, nothing will happen.  If someone decided to give him a citation for his violations, I would expect him to defend on a police priviledge to break traffic laws if necessary to the performance if his duties.  Hence, patrol cars put on lights and sirens and go through a red light in the performance of their duties.
