When the weather forecast says something like "Winds NW 5 mph" does that mean they are coming from the NW ...?

... or heading towards the NW?

So is the wind blowing towards the NW, or is it blowing towards the SE?

  1. It's the direction the wind is coming.


  2. When meteorologists state the wind direction, they state the direction the wind is coming FROM. If its says NW, that means the wind is coming from the Northwest. A cold front must have recently passed through for you to have NW winds.

  3. They are coming from the NW.
