and while driving, you see roadkill, do you hold your breath for fear of the stench that usually follows? I do. It's a habit and I learned my lesson the hard way. One day, I saw roadkill and the smell was so rancid, I almost lost it! LOL! Has this happened to anyone and do you try to hold your breath until you've passed it?

  1. I live in a suburb in Oregon.  There's road kill everywhere so I'm used to it.  Even deer.

  2. I once owned a Jeep. Had the top off of it, beautiful summer day. Cruising around, feeling great. Pulled up at a stop light and there was a dead skunk laying dead in the road right next to my car. You would not believe the smell. It seemed like i sat there for hours-even though it only was like 2 minutes! Since it was a convertible Jeep and i had the top down i just had to sit there and take it.

  3. Try facing this situation while riding on a bicycle!  It gives a good primer on what to do in a car, if you can detect the wind's direction and speed.  On a bike, figure out quickly which way the wind is blowing (this assumes you spot the tasty morsel ahead of time).  If you see you are going to make a vapor crossing, build up speed, hold your breath, and sail on through.....for the first few breaths you take after passing, breath through your mouth, and not your nose....just hope there aren't any flies standing on the sidelines and waiting to be scooped up in your mouth.  The foul smell orfly-down-throat encounter can both lead to the same result: Ralph!

Or, stay home and just hang until winter arrives again!

  4. Only when it is a skunk.

  5. i live on a pretty busy street, but i am also near the foothills so there are alot of dead cats, possums, squirels, and you never really smell them, however it doesnt matter if you hold your breath if a skunk has been hit, even if the windows are up!!! whats worse is the smell lingers for days after the animal has been picked up!

  6. Nope, never had a problem with dead possums, squirrels or turtles smelling bad.
