  1. yes i think you should turn off your TV during the storm.

Any devices that use electricity is subject to being destroyed by an electrical surge and Your house needn't have to get hit by lightning for this to happen.

  2. It is a really good idea because electrical surges can harm your electronic equipment.

  3. next time you see a tornado warning or severe storm warning on tv, what do you see? it says "stay tuned for furthur information," not "turn off your tv"

if you got a surge protector on it, your ok. but the best thing to do is unplug it. just turning it off won't help much

  4. If you are in the only house on the prairie, yes, switch off and unplug everything.

If you are in a town or city neighbourhood, I wouldn't bother.

On the other hand, if there is a risk of tornados, you would want to get any warnings that might be issued for your area. They would be broadcast on local TV and radio.

  5. You should not only turn it off, but un-plug it. Even though it's turned off, a lightning strike can still flow through the wiring, and cook your appliances. You could get a Surge Protector, and plug you TV into it. If a power surge forms, it will trip the circuit, and spare your set. Or computer for that matter.
