When there is the Eifel and the Black Forest in Travel/Germany, why is there no Bavarian Forest?

It's an important tourist region and has some skiing attractions like the Großer Arber, and is located near to the Czech Republic, a new European member state. So if the Eifel and the Black Forest are mentioned separately, I think the Bavarian Forest should be given an equal chance.

  1. It is not as widly known, thats all. Black Forrest with all its turist trash, Eifel with the US bases there....

  2. We have family there. We agree.

Historically speaking during the "cold war" it was simply too close to the Iron Curtain for comfort, uncultured (as in "out-houses"), destitute and dirt poor, being as it was right on the Czech border.

That is why there was no "Bavarian Forest Marketing" to speak of. You are young, you know the attractions, the soul of the people, their folklore, superstitions and quirks.

Go put together the business model, the financing and Bavarian Govt. support.

I can just see it:  Celebrate your heritage in "Hansel and Gretel Park". Clean, simple family fun, with glass blowing demonstrations, family mushroom pickings, mountain bike repair classes and "make your own charcoal" art exhibitions. In a word, a Bavarian Forest "Dollywood", the Great Smoky Mountain's vacation park.

  3. so what? they don't have Saxon Switzerland either

Maybe they opted not to be a part of the marketing or advertising that you are looking at I do not know. They also do not mention many great things from Germany some in Thuringia's Bratwurst!!! mmmmm good!! IMO Best in their Nation. I love Thuringen Bratwurst.

I do not have a really good answer though for you why the Bavarian Forest is not mentioned. Sorry. I live in a State that more people know it for the local city nearby and its winter skiing than it is for the States name. Most people thing that Vermont is a part of Killington!!! Its the other way around LOL.

Who knows who gets to decide what gets and does not get mentioned but many good things get left out that is for sure. Weimar was the Kulturalstadt for 1999 in europe and has a beautiful Park on der Ilm designed by Goethe himself. Its beautiful.

Anyways I know what you mean!

  5. Alwin, the famous "black" forest is in another part of Germany. Bavarian forest - never really heard of,sorry even though I'm sure they have it as being so famous. Pls promote it!
