When they take natural gas out from under my house, how come my house doesn't sink?

  1. natural gas piping is very environment friendly


  2. Whereas coal is solid and bedded, gas and oil are actually distributed throughout porous rock.  When they are removed, the rock is still there.  Also, these fuels are found so far down in the crust that it doesn't impact the surface.

  3. Sometimes it does sink a little when petroleum and gas are removed but much less so with NG.  With NG, the gas that is removed is replaced with vapors (air)  that is already in the soil.

  4. gas and oil are contained in porous rock and for that reason the ground doesn't sink when the oil and gas are removed. the rock doesn't collapse.
