My cat, Cosmo was recently put to sleep(about a day ago). And I miss him so much. We have always had 3 cats, and I just want another special cat to replace Cosmo. My mom has recently been saying NO to everything though. I want a new cat but I'm afraid she will say no. And I don't want to look stupid or anything :(.

PS: R.I.P. Cosmo

  1. Be respectful and remember that your cat just died. Ask your parents in about three weeks to a month to get a new cat. Asking to soon will seem   inappropriate and disrespectful to your recently deceased cat and to your parents. Make a memorial or something of the like to show some gratitude and love towards your cat and maybe your parents will reconsider the time limit.

  2. when I was in the 5th grade my cat of 6 years had died.  My mom went out and got me a new kitten the next day and it made me feel a lot better.  I still mourned and cried for my other cat but it helped take the edge off a little bit.  If my cat that I have now died, though, I would want to take a break for a little bit only because I'M SO attached to her now.

  3. Give it some time, just because you're ready for a new pet doesn't mean that the rest of your family is.  Everyone mourns differently.

I understand why you want a new kitty, but I can also see why your mother wouldn't be ready.  Just keep an eye on your mom and try to figure out how she's feeling without directly asking about it.  Or look for articles about how many kitties are being put down in shelters and try to win her over that way.  Use what you know about her weaknesses. :)

    I'm sorry for your loss.

  4. As far as emotionally goes, being part of a family means you have to take everyone's feelings into account.  Even if you are ready, mom could be grieving.  She may also be thinking of the other cats and feel they are not ready.

It could also be that she knows how much work she is in for - do you take care of the cats or does she?  If you don't, try taking on more of the responsibility.

Why not sit down with mom and talk about the reasons.  What if the reason is financial, that your family does not feel they could provide all the care another cat needs right now?  You may find that your mom will appreciate that you want to have a discussion and try to help with options.

    Sorry about Cosmo.

  5. Wait a few more days. Do some nice things for your parents..

  6. Give it a little more time...Moarn the lost of cosmo, and then look into getting a new cat.
