When to be pushy with your doctors office?

I have had a rash for 2 weeks. I went to the doctor about 10 days ago. They said it was an allergic reaction, gave me a shot of cortizone, a rx for prednisone and told me the rash would be clear within 48 hours. I was vomiting horribly from the pred; so i only it took it one day and he told me to go off it and use Benadryl and Zyrtec. Well; it kept getting worse and worse (itching and rash was spreading). Called 3 days ago; left a message on the nurses line. Called again first thing this morning b/c I hadn't heard anything. They called me at 2pm and told me that I need to come in and be seen again, but the doc doesn't hav an available appointment until Tuesday! The rash is spreading by the day and I'm soo uncomfortable with the itching. I told them they needed to call me in something rx strength for the itching. It's almost 5 and they close..and they haven't called anything in. Is it too pushy to call back? I'm just very irritated with how they've handled this and I want to be comfortable b/c I'm working 9+ hours a day with this rash..

  1. Yes, keep calling them...go to a different doc if you have to.  They obviously didn't diagnose the rash correctly or the medicine would work.  I would also try some over the counter creams in the mean time.  Hydrocortisone helps sometimes.

Keep calling and demand better treatment...ask them to take a sample of the skin tissue where the rash is.

This will allow them to diagnose it properly.

    Good luck

  2. Call back, you're not being pushy.  If you have an insurance that allows you to see another Dr. try another Dr.  I have an HMO, stuck with my Dr.  Good thing I like him.

  3. No its not being pushy. Apparently they have misdiagnosed your problem. You probably need a steroid treatment.  I know its pills that you take for up to 7 days.  Each day you take more pills...one then two etc...up to seven. You probably needed to be given something to bathe in as well.  When u are uncomfortable you deserve to be treated immediately. Your Doctor should know this as well as his staff. I remember how I was in Florida and got sun poisoning. I called my physician in Ga. and he called me back and assisted me over the phone. I did take benadryl and for me it worked. If anything your Doctors office should have had you come back in immediately, not wait until tuesday. Hives and rashes can be life threatening depending on the cause.  Allergic reactions can kill. Fluid can build up and cause difficulty breathing. If they won't see u go to an after hours acute care clinic. U should be seen now.
