Question:

When to go en pointe?

I'm 13 1/2 years old right now and I really really love ballet. I only started a few years ago, though. I was supposed to go en pointe last year but my dance school didn't have a beginner pointe class. My dream is to go en pointe. I don't know if it's too late or if there are any better dance schools in Monmouth County, NJ, but does anyone have any advice?

  1. i'm a dancer and i went on pointe 2yrs ago and i was 12 and i had dance 8 yrs prior so dont worry maybe your not a developed enough dancer cuz you've only been dancing a couple of years.

  2. i amalso a ballet dancer and i do pointe. you still have a chance. you need to have strong legs, and a good arch. you can make it to the next level if you are a little expirienced with pointe. i am from ca and dont know any pointe schools. ask your teacher or look online. good luck!

  3. Make sure that you have strong ankles and strong technique (turnout, correct use of feet). Use a theraband every night (if you don't know what that is, just look it up, it's by bunheads) to build up strength needed for pointe. I started pointe at 14, and started dance at 12 (yes, I was strong enough, but not all people are, I'm just lucky I have naturally high arches and very strong feet). Just keep working hard in class, and when evaluations come up (if your studio has those), hopefully you'll be ready!

  4. Don't worry, I started pointe about the same age as you, and I started dancing about 8 yrs before that. I think you should speak to your teacher and explain how passionate you are about beginning pointe, perhaps your teacher could organise something. If not, try to find another dance school that will has pointe classes, there will be one (I ensure you), or if you don’t want to leave your current dance school, just enrol in a pointe classes in another school.

Look, really you should have started pointe a little early in age but if your work hard at pointe work you’ll do fine.

    Good Luck!

  5. you should really start when youre  yonger.

  6. i've been dancing for eight years now. and went on point 2 years ago. when i was twelve. you just have to be developed.

make sure your feet are strong enough. practice demi pointe.

ur teacher well put you on pointe when they no your ready!>

  7. most dancers don't start pointe work untill they are 12-14 so i wouldn't worry to much. i started at your age! your teacher will start you when she thinks you are ready and your ancles are strong enough. remember you don't have to start pointe in a beginners class while everyone is doing their pointe you can be doing just simpe exercises but being around those more advanced can inspire you to work harder so you can be as good as them. just be careful and take it easy you have plenty of time!
