I have some sweetcorne growing in the garden that my grandaughter planted when is it ready to pick?

  1. Sweet corn like most of cerials takes about three/four months from planting to harvest.

    The Island of Britain produces two harvests each year, so if you pick and eat the sweet corn now, you've still [just about] got time to get in another crop of something.

  2. When the stringy bit is at the top

  3. When the tufts at the top are brown. Also when you push your finger nail into one of the kernals the juice should look like milk.

  4. When the stringy stuff at the top of the corn kernal turns brown, gently undo the leaves protecting the kernal and poke one corn kernal with a knife, if clears fluid comes out then its ready to be picked. If not then put the leaves back in place and check a few days to a week later.
