Question:

When to send my FAFSA?

I was visiting a college and the tour guide said I should send in a FAFSA at the same time I apply. However, I think I remember being told somewhere else that I should do it around January. Is the FAFSA for the 2009-2010 school year accessible before then, or should I send my application materials separately from my FAFSA?

  1. Ok I'll be a freshman in college in the 2000-10 school year. I've already applied and been accepted (early I know) but the FAFSA application for the year isn't available until January 31. However, the money is first come first serve, so make sure you apply early.

  2. You should fill out and file a FAFSA as soon as you are able. You can request that the results be sent to whichever schools you are applying for, and they do not have to be sent simultaneously with your college app. As far as I know, 2009-2010 isn't available till January.

  3. You would apply for the FAFSA in January 2009 for the 2009 fall semester.  You'll need your parents and your tax return info, or you can estimate it and then correct it when taxes are done.  It is transmitted electronically and this info is furnished to the colleges you indicate in that process.

  4. You should apply and send your fafsa in at least 3-4 months you're going to start school.
