I was thinking about starting him on cow milk Dec 1.

But his birthday is not until Dec 11. I know that is awhile from now.

I will ask his doc but we do not have another apt. til October.

Oh the wondering mind of a mother...

  1. yea sure. you're supposed to wait a year but what's eleven days?

  2. docs say a year but my son is 10 months old and we put him on it a month ago because he wasn't gaining weight.  But i would wait until he was at least 9 months and then add some cereal to it with the DHA so he is still getting that for his brain and eye development.

  3. Some infants like me get sick from whole milk or "D" milk. To this day I cannot drink it. Not lactose intolerant. only drink 2%. I was raised from 9 mo on 2%. I was healthy and active so my mother says.

  4. after he turns 1... preferably should breastfeed longer than that.. I am going to go until she is at least 13 months.

  5. Don't start an infant on cow's milk until they are one because their stomach can't digest the proteins and it can cause damage.  a few days however, probably won't make a big difference. starting to early can also introduce allergies.  Also be sure you start on whole milk because they still need the extra calories, you can give them 2% when they are 2 i think or maybe three.

  6. One year, give or take a couple of weeks. I gave my daughter cows milk a couple of weeks before her first birthday, mixed with formula to get her used to it.

  7. Honestly I dont think 10 days is going to hurt anything. I dont thing that 10 days his stomach will become magically able to digest it. I would go for it my daughter turned a year old yesterday and we have been giving her both formula and milk alternating bottles to see her tolerance for it and now shes just fine. I have to put cereal in hers because she has a stomach problem that things to thin (juice water) she spits back up. Hope it helps and good luck!

  8. If hes good and healthy i don't see why not, I put my oldest and my youngest on cows milk at 12 months but my middle child needed extra vitamins cause he was so little!

  9. Our son turns 1 on Sept 17 and this past week my mother in law offered our son some whole milk in a sippy....he immediately tossed it aside and started 'screaming' at her and shaking his finger 'no no'.....he's been breast fed up unil now and will be for at least another month, but I figure after we start offering him whole milk he'll still choose to breast feed over the whole milk based on his reaction. I'd hold off and just talk to your pedi and see what he/she has to say.
