Question:

When to stop birth control?

My husband and I will be trying to conceive in 3-4 months. I was planning on stopping birth control in a few weeks and let my cycles become regular again (i've been on BC for 7 years). However, I am in the middle of a pack of BC and just started on antibiotics (which interferes with BC). Do i continue taking the whole pack of BC or do i just stop taking it right now, a few weeks early?

  1. i would suggest you finish the pack to start your period, then stop taking them, that way you are starting a fresh cycle because if you stop taking them in the middle of the pack it may start your period and then you will be out of whack further.also you should ask your dr about taking prenatal vitamins for a few months before you start trying. My dr told me that this was the best way to go off b.c.

  2. get off bc now! I have a friend who was on it for 10 yrs and when she got off it took her  1 1/2 yrs to get her period back b4 she could even try to get pregnant. Everyones body is different so I'm not saying this will happen to you but you never know. Talk to your dr. I stopped taking the pill 2 yrs ago and just used condoms up till 1 months ago. Now we are trying to concieve. I also started to take prenatal vitamins bake in January. My dr said that since we knew we wanted to get preggers towards the end of summer i should start taking them to help me prepare my body for pregnancy. I also take my temp w a basal thermonitor every morning. You can stop taking the pill now if you want. You do not have to finish it. Be aware though that when you stop taking it in the middle of your cycle you may start a new period within a few days. I stoppped in the middle and thats what happened to me. Also it could take your body a few months to "get back on track" Good luck to you....and me too :)

  3. I got pregnant 3 times the month after I stopped the pill. The problem is that it can cause M/C.

It was recommended by this dr to stop pills and be off for 3 months before trying.

I would finish the pack and then quit!

    Best of luck!

  4. I don't think it takes as long as people claim to get out of your system.  I was on BC for over 10 years, wasn't trying to get pregnant, and got pregnant in 2 months.  I also read that Christina Aguilera had gotten off of BC because her and her husband wanted to start trying after her tour, and she got pregnant in 1-2 months.

  5. It really doesn't matter. If getting pregnant now or in a few weeks versus a few months isn't a big deal, then just stop now. Quite frankly, if you've been taking it for 7 years it may take you a while to conceive anyway.
