When to take the PSAT?

Right now I'm currently a sophmore in high school and I was wondering if it is a good idea to take the PSAT this year. I'm not really sure when to take it. Any suggestions on when to take it and when would be most beneficial? I'm able to take it this year, except I'm not sure if it is best or not. Thank you.

  1. The College board (which is the makers of the PSAT and SAT) allow sophomores to take the PSAT, but it only counts in your junior year. It is required to receive the National Merit Scholarships.

  2. do you have to take the psat or can you take the act, my son has been researching which one he wants to take.  some schools its mandatory to do both-he gets to choose which one, usually it is done is 11th grade but it really depends on your school and you. we found that with the act you get to decide which test scores the college sees and with the psat they send all your scores to the college, if you take it more than once do some research

  3. I'm a sophomore and I'm taking it this year, plus so many other people that I know. It of course doesn't hurt to take it as early as possible, considering you'll have more time to study what you need for the SAT.

  4. Take the PSAT toward the end of your sophomore year or beginning of your junior year, and then take the SAT and/or ACT at the end of junior year and beginning of senior year.

I took it beginning of junior year and everything worked out fine.
