Does this seem like now would be a good time to put him in a toddler bed? Im nervous b.c I really dont want him roamin around when getting out of a toddler bed , but then I dont need him gettin hurt either falling out of a crib or getting a limb or something else stuck in the crib, Please help. Thank you.

  1. If he is getting out of the crib, then it is definitely time for a "big boy" bed. My son was the same and he slept in a toddler bed around the same age. It was much safer and he was happier!

  2. I would so go to a toddler bed. It is a lot safer. Your son could try to climb out and fall. That is why a toddler bed is a great choice for your son. 14 months old is a good age to swich.

  3. you can try the toddler bed now. They sell them with rails or you can buy they rails separately. They have the mesh rails if u are worried he might get his legs stuck somehow in the plastic ones.

  4. i put my son in his toddler bed somewhere between 12-15 months.

  5. If he's climbing out of the crib - I'd change his bed!! I'd be SO worried he'd fall and break his neck!! I think it is definatly time to change something.

With my 2 older kids - I took the side off their crib at about age 1 1/2 - 2 or so - this way their was not much change - and was way easier  (most cribs nowdays convert to toddler beds) - but I think you could just switch his bed if thats easier - make it a big fun deal. I have a baby gate installed on their room door - so even if they get up, they can not get out of their room and wander the house unsupervised - I made sure their room was safe/childproof to leave them alone in.

After a while of sleeping in the crib with no side, I transitioned them to big beds - my girl started sleeping in an adult bed at maybe 2 1/2, and my son got his toddler bed at age 2 or so...

If you are worried he will roll / fall out of the bed - put pillows next to the bed - or just start with the mattress on the floor at first.

But #1-- I'd get a good, secure baby gate so you know he can not get out of his room unless you let him out!! a 1 year old wandering around unsupervised in the middle of the night is almost as scarey as him getting tangled up in that crib!!

  6. DS was 13 months when he figured out how to climb out of his crib.  We did transition him at 15 months.  We took him to the store and let him pick out his decor.  He is very proud of his new room and loves to show it off to visitors.  However, he still prefers to climb into bed with us (a habit he got into when he was able to climb out of his crib) during the night.  I think it is a common time to transition.  He will be fine, but it is never easy to see your babies grow out of a crib :(.

  7. Maybe put up the toddler bed and let him get use to it for a while.  If they fall asleep on the bed one day on their own, then start letting him take naps on it for a while and see what he does when he wakes up.  I did this will all my kids and one day they just fell asleep on the toddler bed while playing so I started putting them in it for naps only.  When i was sure that they were looking for me as soon as they woke up then I started letting them spend the night in the toddler bed.

I have friends who instead just put them in the toddler bed 100% of the time and just put one of those kid gates in the doorway of the kids room.  They felt that this way the door was open but the kid didn't go wandering around if mom or dad wasn't up.  Sadly my kids figured out how to take the gate down at a young age so for me this option would not have worked well.

  8. I believe I would leave him in the crib, until he turns24 months, but there are slats made to go between the slats of the bed that is already there, and you have a device that is mounted on top of theside rails that will make taller for him(so he can not climb out) but it can be unlatched on the outside for you to get into the crib;I  think if I put him in atoddler's bed now,  he's just  going  to climb out of it also ,or you could put him in a playpen, with blankets and pillow,(if he sleeps with  one), and he couldn't climb out of that !    You can ask a dealership that sells baby- beds for the extensions for the baby beds, that's what it was called back in 1984. Good Luck !!

  9. I changed my son once he started walking pretty much. I didn't want to risk him falling out of the crib. Get him a toddler bed with the rails on the sides. Usually they don't roam once you put them to sleep. My son who is now 2 soon 3 only gets up to go pee and even then wakes me up to tell me. Trust me at first they love their bed since they think they're a "big boy now"
