When to worry about baby's weight/size?

Ok,

My daughter is a little over 9 months now, to me she is growing like a weed from the mere 4lbs 15ouc she was born at (@35 weeks). She is now up to about 16 lbs and about 24 inches long (18 at birth). She usually eats about 22 ounces of formula a day along with 3.5 ounces of baby food 3 times a day... She eats great not picky or anything.... But just not gaining anymore. I was looking at the "growth charts" and i believe them to be telling me that she is in the 10th percent for weight and not even on the charts for lenght.

Prolly should make a call to the doc to be sure... at least it would ease mine and dad's minds. Do you think we should worry or just give it more time?

  1. I know each baby is different. For comparisons my daughter was born 7lbs 12 oz, 21'' long and now at 3 1/2 months weighs 15 lbs, 24 '' long. She is a bigger baby for her age. Im sure it may be because your daughter was so small at birth and was born premature? What does he paediatrician say about this?

  2. My baby was born at 4 pounds 5 ounces and was 18 inches long! Same as yours! He was 2 months early though. Now he is 5 months old and about 25 inches long and weighs 15 pounds ... same as yours! Well the difference is that your is 9 months but I think you should be worried about any weight loss. If her weight is stable then she's probably just a slow grower or plain out short. If she is not losing weight then I think everything is ok. Maybe her metabolism is super skyrocket high.

  3. Are you and dad small? i'm sure she is just fine but yes i would bring it up at my next doc visit my first was born at 5lbs 11ozs and 19 inches but by 5 months old she was 16 lbs. However my little sis was 3lbs 5ozs and was super small until she was like 4 and then she kinda became average in size.

  4. If she's in the 10th percentile, AND she's a preemie, then don't sweat it, and just give it time. All my kids slowed down in their growth (and even dropped off the weight, and height chart -- TOTALLY!! -- at around 13 months, and stayed off the charts till about 2 1/2, now the 7 yr. old is back at the 25%, after all that worrying (the Dr. was more worried then me really) so I really wouldn't worry, especially if she's eating, and peeing and pooping regularly.

  5. I think that she sounds like she is just fine. The dr that we take my niece to says that the average weight for a one year old is around 20 lbs. It sounds like your daughter may end up pretty close to that weight also. Not all babies will fall right at this weight though (my niece was 26 lbs at her 12 month appointment). I don't think that you have anything to worry about, if she is eating good and she is healthy. You have to also consider that she did start out on the smaller side too. My opinion is that everything is probably fine and she will grow when the time comes but if you are truely concerned about it then I would contact your dr. One little boy that I know is going to be 4 next month and still wears 18-24 month clothing. Kids will all grow at their own rates, all that matters is that they are healthy.

  6. The doctors always say that preemies are behind. Eventually she will catch up. My friend had a little boy who is 10% in height and weight. (not a preemie, just a really picky eater) I am no expert, but I am sure she will catch up and grow. If she is eating as much as you say, she is ok. Don't worry. Good luck :)
