  1. The whole idea behind using a tee, is to give yourself the BEST possible lie for your shot; of course, it only applies in the tee box.

The rule of thumb is, if you can use a tee, then you should use a tee.  Using a tee, increases the chances of you making solid contact with the ball.

Personally, when I'm using irons off the tee and I want to hit the ball cleanly (no divot), I'll find & use a broken tee and tee the ball very low...almost flush to the ground.  You can do the same with a regular tee.

Otherwise, for shorter tee shots, I don't use a tee and I play the ball as if it were in the fairway;  BUT the good thing is you get to give yourself a perfect lie on the tee box where you couldn't in the fairway.

Bottom line is it's all about giving yourself the IDEAL lie for the club you choose to hit; however, teeing the ball up does make the ball a little easier to hit!

  2. i use a tee only with a driver...

  3. I use tees at every tee box, whether I've got a wood or an iron on a par 3. I used to not use tees on par 3s but I'm feeling more comfortable about doing that now.

  4. I once heard a pro say "Any time you are allowed to use a tee, do it."  With that said, I will sometimes prepare the ground on a par-3 by hitting the ground away from the hole striking down with a club.  This makes a mound of grass/dirt that I can set the ball on.  Its the old-school way of making a tee.  Otherwise, I will use a chopped off top of a tee and hit it from there.  Again, any advantage that the rules give... take.

  5. Driver 3 wood Long irons and hybrids. On par a par 3 I don't use tees above a 6 iron because the ball tends to go to high

with 7 iron up to SW. The only exception is when the tee box is sandy that causes the ball to fly 30 yards shorter than usual unless you catch it clean or thin.

  6. it is up to you...i usually use one i just dont tee it up as high as when i use a driver

  7. You only use a golf tee when you are teeing off.  You can do this on every hole with any club you want

  8. You always want the best lie you can get so I recommend using a tee on all tee shots.  Obviously you are going to tee it much lower with irons and fairway woods than with the driver.

  9. The only time I don't tee it up is when I play a little par 3 course with some holes around or under 100 yards. And that's just because it's so rare that I can't be as precise with distances since I never practice my wedges off tees. Otherwise, your doing yourself a disservice by not using a tee. A tee gives you a perfect lie every time, why would you want to concede that?

  10. Like the others have said, using a tee improves your lie when teeing off.  I always use a tee, even on par-3's.  On a par-3, I tee the ball as if it was sitting nice & pretty on the top of the grass.

  11. Always use a tee, even on par 3s.  Even with a short iron, you're better off with a tee. It doesnt have to be high,in fact, you would tee it almost no higher than if you're hitting it off grass.  There are always exceptions.  I sometimes hit a 3w right off the turf because I can get a little better ball flight.

  12. It's really simple.  If Arnold Palmer says you should use a tee as often as you can, then I'm using a tee on every tee box.
