When travelling on a plane, bindings on or off?

I'm traveling with my snowboard for the first time and was wondering if it was best to take the bindings off or leave them on? I have a Burton Wheelie Gig Bag and the if the bindings were left on, there's a compartment for my boots which sits in between the bindings.

  1. Snowboards do have to be within a certain length for it to be carry-on. Check with your airline

  2. I always leave the binding on.  While my bag does not have a special compartment, I still put the boots between the bindings to help protect them from compression damage from other bags being tossed on top.  I also cut up a board shipping carton and put this over the tip and tail of the board.  I have never had any damage and have witness my board bag being literally thrown by baggage handlers.

  3. I would be worried about it travelling with the bindings on.... It just seems they would be more vulnerable that way.  I would take them off just to be safe.... it would suck if they threw a heavy bag on your board and snapped a strap off of your binding or something!  Good luck!

  4. i always leave mine on!  never had a problem....
