I am going to Spain on Monday and got an email from BA telling me that i have to enter extra security info. i did as the email said; just passport number, name, DoB and nationality Is this all i need to enter or are there extra new security arrangements? Also why are these arrangements only for UK, Swiss and Moroccan passengers?

  1. A lot of airlines are doing this nowadays.

  2. All visitors from the UK to Spain have to give details for something called API (Advance passenger information). It began in the summer of this year. It´s nothing to be concerned about and there are no security problems to worry about.

It is only for certain countries because they are the ones that have requested this information but it could easily be extended to other European countries. Spain like to keep a record of those travelling to their country. Once you´ve given that info to BA just forget about it and enjoy your trip.

  3. phone them and ask them but as far as I know as long as you have a passport that has all the information they need.

  4. The Spanish Government have insisted that all airlines provide more details of passengers flying into Spain before the flight departs as part of increased security. This has applied since last year and if airlines fail to provide the information they are fined heavily. Therefore the e-mail may well be genuine.

All of the above said most of the information is gathered when you first book nowadays, so you are right to be cautious of the e-mail. To be on the safe side contact BA by a phone number found elsewhere i.e. not on the e-mail, so that you know the number is genuine and give them the details by phone or get an e-mail address you can send them to from the person on the phone.

  5. I FIND IT VERY STRANGE THAT  BA WOULD ASK FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION ON AN E MAIL.DONT GIVE ANYBODY THIS INFO AS THEY MAY USE IT AS A SCAM.IF THEY NEED MORE INFO THEN GIVE IT AT THE AIRPORT
