The warning box sends me to pn1.advisor.yahoo.com. After hitting the "yes" button several times I get an error report and then the whole connection to the internet is lost.

How do I seach Ebay without being interrupted?

  1. Fred, I believe I have found an answer which may work for you.

A pop-up that wants to take you to pn1.advisor.yahoo.com is spyware.  The spyware needs to be removed from your computer.

The best way to do this is using software called HijackThis! along with other anti-virus and clean-up tools; see #3 below. If it were me, I would skip to Step 3 below and follow those suggestions.

    1. Check your computer for something called UPromise or Upromise_Remind_U.  It might be in this folder: C:\Program Files\

If you do have it, it won't be as easy as deleting it.  I would follow the HijackThis! steps below if you find that file.

    2. You may have a variation of SmitFraud. Run SmitFraudFix to remove the banner:

    OR

    3. If that doesn't work, download HijackThis:

HijackThis! is troubleshooting software used by many online help communities to aid users in ridding their computers of spyware, malware and trojans.  You post your HijackThis! file in a forum thread, describe your problem, and a helpful volunteer will assist you.  Make sure you create your own thread for your particular issue.

You can download HijackThis! and then post the resulting log file here:  http://www.hijackthis.de/  and then click on the English speaking forums to be taken to a forum that can help you.  Scroll down the page, and you will see a sub-forum that says "English-Help." Post your question in that forum.

If you want to use a different forum, try googling for "HijackThis."  There are many helpful forums out there.

I once struggled with such a problem for days, then got onto one of those boards, and they had it solved within a few hours.  What a relief!

    Good luck!
