Question:

When two cars almost collide its called a near miss. Surely it should be a near hit as you nearly hit?

Can anyone explain this to me as it doesn't appear to make sense!

  3. i don't think it implies that it is NEARLY a miss, rather a miss that is NEAR to a hit.

    i think you could say near hit though. no-one would shoot you.

  4. No it sounds better and it makes more since "a narrowly averted collision; a near escape"
