  1. first of all, it shouldn't feel overly cheap, and of a toy-like consistency. It shouldn't feel like a once time use camera. The feeling of the camera's outer skin will depend on the manufacturer and the price paid for the camera

Secondly, make sure that the camera has a high amount of megapixels, at least six, that's a good place to start, if it's not a digital SLR, going under five megapixels, may results in getting smoe bad pictures.

Make sure it's not under 80$, if it is, you know from that, that's it's not going to be exactly the world's most durable, and best camera. The images will most likely be washed out, and grainy.

You say you want a thin camera, you should go with the canon line of cameras. They make the smallest, and skinniest cameras. And, most of them are fairly/cheaply priced, but not under 100$ though, that's kodak's job.

  2. Look at price. It shouldn't be too cheap or expensive. then look at megapixels. 8 megapixels is perfect getting more and more megapixels isn't better although people think it does. It makes the picture harder to deal with and worse.

  3. You do lots of research on websites and ask people what they like about their cameras. If you have a few cameras in mind, you could post back on this site and ask people who own them to let you know what they're like.

The only way you're going to be happy is if you give a few different types a try in the shop to see what takes the best pictures and what feels best. Don't be persuaded by the shopkeepers either - sometimes they get an extra commission for selling certain brands.

It depends on how big the photos are in size to how many images fit on the memory card. I have an 1gig card and have my photos on 5 mp setting. I can fit about 600 photos on my card or more before I have to delete. If you want to take photos with a higher resolution, you'll obviously fit less.
