  1. Nail trimming can be a difficult experience for a first time guinea pig owner. A few hints may help you achieve success.

Cavy toenails grow constantly. Some grow straighter while others have a tendency to curl and lie to one side. Very young guinea pig's nails are short and sharp. Early clippings help blunt their sharp nails. As a cavy ages, their nails become more brittle and grow more irregularly. Cavies kept as pets generally require nail clipping, as their nails do not receive enough wear to keep them at the proper length. Some people put a stone or brick in their pet's cage in the hope that it will wear down the nails so trimming is unnecessary. However, this is generally not effective and all cavies seem to require regular trims. A very few pigs will chew on their hind nails.

  2. Cut them yourself,Just be careful.

  3. Not really call around sometimes the pet store you got it from will do it for free just ask-worst they can say is no

  4. i think that it is but you could cut them your self but make sure you just cut the tip and dont cut the vein they have its called quick because it may cause bleeding the quick grows as the nail grows, its easier if your guinea pig has white nails cause you can reconize the vein easier because its the darkest part of the nail its may be red or pink,(if it has dark nails i recommend you to ask a professional),but if accidently you cut the vein then press it with a towel and their are special products for it at petstores, but try not to cut it cause its really painful for them,i havent tried it with my baby guinea pig because im only 11 years old,for more information go to www.guinealynx.com,wish you luck

  5. You should call Petsmart and or Petco and ask how much it would cost, or buy some animal nail clipers which are much safer and come with some pwder in case you cut too much off it will stop the bleeding, animals nails are different from ours and contain blood vessels so you need to be careful when cutting them not to cut too much and get the "wick" which is where the veins are.

  6. You should be able to do it yourself---even with a large toe nail cutter, just don't cut to short, just the sharp edges
