  1. Look them in the eye.

Whether you comply or fight, looking them in the eye can be construed as a challenge to their dominance in the situation, which will likely force their hand. Look at the jugular notch: you can see body movement well from here as well as the facial features in your peripheral vision without looking the attacker in the eye.

People make such a big deal about this. Yes, being threatened with a weapon is scary as h**l. But give yourself some credit. If you think (or preferably know in your heart) that you're going to die and that nothing you do is wrong at that point, it's very freeing. Truthfully, he's either going to hurt you or not. You don't know, so assume the worst.

I don't like the wait and see attitude: "Well, I'll give him my wallet and if he decides he's going to shoot me anyhow, then I'll act." Uh... What? Well, yeah, he could walk away. He also could use the ID you have in your wallet to come see what a nice family and what nice things you have. Remember, assume the worst.

I watch so many self defense instructors (my current group leader included, sadly) teach gun and knife disarms at arm distance. At arm distance, it's a strength match. If you trap it against you, the ground, or the wall, where can it go. At this point, you have to disarm the gun before escaping the attacker, but the knife isn't a distance weapon (how far can one accurately throw a knife?) so you -can- actually leave it with the attacker if you've gotten him down and hurting. (This is, of course, a judgment call).

Oh, and one other thing: Don't be an idiot and disarm a gun, then go running down the street with it in your hand. Hug it to you under your arms so it's not obvious or threatening. Last thing you need is to be shot because you're running down the street with a gun.

    Great question.

  2. Start Flailing your arms and Bark in his face. Then proceede to bite him.

  3. try to react.

Keep calm and comply is the best strategy

  4. dont p**s them off or move just do as they say. well this if its a gun if its a weapon like a stick or a short knife its not as much of a threat.

  5. YOU CHOULD NEVER LET THEM TAKE YOU ANYWHERE.  DON'T EVER GET INTO ANY TYPE OF VEHICLE WITH THE "ASSAILANT" ...

IF IT EVER GETS TO THAT POINT REMEBER TO FIGHT.  YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL FIGHTING THAN LETTING THEM DO AS THEY PLEASE WITH YOU... IF YOU DO THERE GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY...

    REMEMBER TO FIGHT

  6. One general and hard fast rule I teach is to never ever go with an armed attacker. They are just looking for a safe place to off you no matter what they say. FBI statistics bare this out.

Give them what they want. Money and things can be replaced. If the gun or knife or whatever gets close enough to you and you are competent to disarm them than proceed. If not prayer might be helpful. Of course I believe prayer is always helpful.;)

  7. IMO the one thing that you od not want to do is startle them and make them squeeze the trigger on reflex or by mistake.

Face it if the intent was to kill you and then take your money, you would probably never see it coming. Chances are he is way more intereted in taking your possesions and splitting quickly. I suspect the police would work harder or assign a higher priority to a murder then a armed robbery, and I suspect he will know this. No sense making any sudden movements and causing him to have an accident.

  8. Run

  9. Katana and Frank are right on this one. Don't let an armed attacker abduct you. But don't do anything to MAKE him shoot you either. If you have to fight, grab the gun with both hands, point it anywhere but at yourself, get the gun away if you can. If not, put up the fight of your life, and make a lot of noise. Hopefully, someone will be kind enough to come to your aid. (Yeah, right...)

  10. Don't Panic, and act without thinking it out.  Never get in the car, trunk or do anything that would take you farther from the scene and public.

  11. Umm... I'd assume getting shot, would be one of the things you'd never want to do.

  12. Try to catch the bullet in your teeth?

  13. don't panic just remain calm and try and keep your head clear.  If you panic you won't remember a thing and won't be able to defend yourself.

  14. Call them a worthless &*^% and try to p**s on their shoes.

Seriously, anything other than just simply complying. Beggin for your life is just as likely to get you shot as trying to be tough. These types of people are emotionally unstable and will fly off at the handle with the slightest influence.

  15. E.G. nailed this one.

Good answers here though overall, but the hard and fast rule is never go anywhere with them, far better off staying your ground and fighting for your life there. People who rob you won't want to take you anywhere, they just want the money and the quick escape. Killers/Rapists are the ones that want to take you to a remote location...

Great answers overall. EG gets my vote.

  16. act tuff

  17. Run, hit them, yell, etc... There are a lot of things you shouldn't do. =)

  18. Tell him, "You're too scared to shoot me!" and start dancing like a monkey.
