What is happening when the ultraviolet light is shinning onto the crack and liquid?

  1. The ultraviolet light is needed to "cure" the acrylic.  What this means is that the individual monomers of acrylic cross-link, or bond with each other to form a large polymer molecule.  When the liquid of small molecules (monomer) cross-links into larger molecules (polymer) it becomes a solid.
