I tried to "clear Private history" but this had no result. This seems like an everyday task. What's going on here?

  1. Nothing is going on here. All the major web browsers are the same in this respect. A couple of things you can do are: (I am using Windows Vista so you will have to find the appropriate settings for Mac)

Tools > Options (This is different in Linux so it is probably different in Mac.)

Once you are in settings go to the Privacy tab. There are a couple of things you can do there as you will see but probably the best thing to do is to check the box beside "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" and change what is to be deleted by clicking on settings beside it.

There are also other programs that can delete all the temporary files on your computer including browsing history. It is completely safe to remove the files, hence the name temporary.

A good free one is CCleaner.

    Hope this helped.
