  1. omg, that film will scare the S**T out of you, i went to see it a few years back, and couldn't sleep for  a month, the play is a horror play.

  3. I'm not sure of the exact era but I remember seeing an adaptation on ITV (UK) in 1989! The characters were in late Victorian/early Edwardian clothes (I remember it because I was 12 when I saw it and it scared the h**l out of me!) I would love to see it again.

  4. Although Susan Hill didn't write this until 1983, she wrote it wanting to emulate the stories of M R James and Dickens, so the safest bet would be late 19th century (1890 - 1900).

    I had a search but there seems to be no definitive date mentioned anywhere
