There was indeed an Alexander III canonized by the Catholic Church - he was pope from 1159 to 1181 and he was certainly not Alexander the Great.

The Catholic Encyclopedia lists many Alexanders who are either saints or important figures in Church history; since Alexander the Great was not even a Christian, there is no possibility at all of him ever being sanctified.
