I've been doing research for a long time and I'm just flat out confused. It says it was settled in 1626 by the Dutch I believe. But I also found out it was seized by the English in 1664. I have a feeling it was founded as a colony in 1664. But I'm not sure. Help Please Thanmks in advance

  1. Staisil is, once again, correct. It was originally New Amsterdam. The Dutch claimed most of the Northeastern United States.

Even the Title to my house traces back to the Holland Land Company in the late 1600's.

  2. The Dutch explored it in 1609, founded it in 1626. The British took it from them in 1664, then the Dutch took it back in 1673, the the English took it for good in 1674.

  3. On May 4th, 1626, the Dutch West India Company formed the colony of New Amsterdam.  On February 6, 1685 under King James II New York became a royal colony.
