Its possible tht the first civilised society of indians discovered them ...... !!!

They were first used as medicines ....... for their medicinal properties ....... for treating cough & cold , for throat & gastric ailments and for injuries too !!!

It was much later , that they were used in cooking for their aroma & storing food for a longer period of time !!!!
